Rilparencel (also known as REACT) is a first-in-class, autologous cellular therapy developed by ProKidney for the treatment of advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly in patients with diabetic nephropathy. The therapy is produced by isolating a patient's own kidney cells from a biopsy, expanding specific renal epithelial cells in a laboratory, and formulating them into a personalized product for re-injection. Administered via a percutaneous intra-renal injection, rilparencel is designed to stabilize or improve kidney function by reducing inflammation, fibrosis, and the progressive scarring that leads to kidney failure. It has received Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) designation from the FDA and is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials.
