Overview

Riltozinameran is a nucleoside-modified messenger RNA (mRNA) drug encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles, designed to encode the spike (S) protein of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant lineage BA.1. It is used as a component of bivalent COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, specifically in combination with tozinameran (which encodes the original SARS-CoV-2 spike protein), for active immunization against COVID-19. The vaccine elicits both neutralizing antibody and cellular immune responses by delivering mRNA into host cells, where it is translated into the viral spike protein, prompting an immune response that helps protect against infection[1][4][5]. Riltozinameran is indicated as a booster dose for individuals aged 12 years and older who have completed a primary vaccination course[1][4].
