Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rimactal INH is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic therapy containing rifampicin and isoniazid, developed and marketed by Global Pharmaceuticals in Pakistan. It is indicated for the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis (TB) and other susceptible bacterial infections. Rifampicin, a rifamycin derivative, inhibits bacterial DNA-directed RNA polymerase, thereby blocking RNA synthesis. Isoniazid is a prodrug that, once activated by the bacterial enzyme KatG, inhibits the synthesis of mycolic acids, which are essential components of the mycobacterial cell wall. This dual-action approach targets both actively dividing and dormant *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* bacilli.
