Overview

Rimtuzalcap (CAD-1883) is a first-in-class selective positive allosteric modulator of small-conductance calcium-activated potassium channels (SK channels). It is a small molecule pharmaceutical developed for the research and potential treatment of movement disorders such as essential tremor and spinocerebellar ataxia. Rimtuzalcap acts by increasing SK channel activity in Purkinje cells of the cerebellar cortex, leading to hyperpolarization and reduced neuronal firing rates. This mechanism is thought to decrease dysfunctional oscillatory input to the motor cortex associated with essential tremor. The drug was originally developed by Cadent Therapeutics and Saniona; following acquisition, Novartis became its developer[2][3][5].
