Overview

Rinogermina is a topical nasal probiotic spray composed of two specific live bacterial strains: *Streptococcus salivarius* 24SMB and *Streptococcus oralis* 89a. It is designed to restore the natural nasopharyngeal microbiota and establish a biological barrier against pathogenic bacteria. The mechanism of action involves competitive exclusion for adhesion sites on the nasal mucosa and the production of bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances (BLIS) that antagonize the growth of pathobionts such as *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Moraxella catarrhalis*, and *Haemophilus influenzae*. Rinogermina is primarily used to manage and prevent recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, including chronic adenoiditis and otitis media, by reducing local inflammation and mechanical obstruction caused by hypertrophic adenoids. It is often classified as a medical device or a live biotherapeutic product in various regulatory jurisdictions.
