Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VAL401 is a reformulation of the established antipsychotic drug risperidone into a liquid-filled capsule containing rumenic acid. This special lipid formulation allows risperidone to enter cancer cells and inhibit the enzyme HSD10 (17HSD10), which is key to metabolism in cancerous cells. Unlike traditional risperidone that works at the cell surface for its anti-psychotic properties, VAL401's formulation enables the drug to penetrate cancer cells and disrupt their metabolic processes, breaking the cell cycle specifically in cancerous cells.
