risperidone ISM

Risperidone ISM is a long-acting injectable (LAI) formulation of risperidone using in situ microparticle (ISM) technology for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. Unlike other LAI antipsychotics, risperidone ISM achieves therapeutic plasma levels within hours of intramuscular administration, without the need for oral supplementation or loading doses. Its mechanism of action involves dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptor antagonism, characteristic of atypical antipsychotics. Risperidone ISM provides constant, sustained drug release over a four-week dosing period, enabling rapid symptom control and long-term maintenance. Developed to improve adherence and overall management in both acute and maintenance phases of schizophrenia, risperidone ISM is effective, well tolerated, and recently approved in the EU for adult schizophrenia[1][2][3].
