Risuteganib is a synthetic oligopeptide and integrin inhibitor developed for the treatment of retinal diseases, particularly dry (non-exudative) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and diabetic retinopathy. It acts by binding to specific integrin heterodimers—αVβ3, αVβ5, α5β1, and αMβ2—thereby inhibiting pathways involved in angiogenesis, inflammation, vascular permeability, and oxidative stress. Preclinical studies indicate that risuteganib stabilizes mitochondrial function in retinal cells and reduces reactive oxygen species production. Administered via intravitreal injection, it has demonstrated significant improvements in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) with a favorable safety profile in phase 2 clinical trials[2][3][5][7][9].
