Overview

Ritiometan is a small molecule antibacterial agent primarily used in nasal sprays and aerosol preparations for the treatment of infections of the nose and throat, including viral rhinitis (the common cold) and rhinopharyngitis[1][2][3][4]. It is marketed in France under the trade name Nécyrane[1][3][4]. Chemically known as (methylidynetrithio)triacetic acid, ritiometan features three carboxylic acid groups and sulfur-containing moieties. Its antibacterial mechanism is not fully understood but may involve disruption of bacterial cell membranes or interference with essential metabolic pathways due to its thiol groups[6]. Ritiometan is administered topically via intranasal route.
