Rituximab + DexaBEAM is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily as salvage therapy for relapsed or refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The regimen consists of rituximab (a monoclonal antibody targeting CD20 on B lymphocytes) combined with the DexaBEAM protocol, which includes dexamethasone (a corticosteroid), carmustine (BCNU), etoposide, cytarabine (Ara-C), and melphalan. Rituximab works by binding to the CD20 antigen on B cells and inducing cell lysis through mechanisms such as complement-dependent cytotoxicity and antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity. The chemotherapeutic agents in DexaBEAM act via various mechanisms to inhibit DNA synthesis or induce apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. This combination aims to achieve high response rates and sustained remissions in patients with aggressive or indolent forms of lymphoma who have failed prior therapies[1][4].
