Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Riva Star Aqua Step 1 is the first component of a patented, non-invasive, two-step water-based silver fluoride (AgF) dental treatment system developed and manufactured by SDI (Southern Dental Industries). It consists of a 38% to 39% silver fluoride aqueous, ammonia-free solution. When applied to teeth, it targets the dentinal tubules, blocking them by forming a low-solubility precipitate (especially when followed by Step 2, a potassium iodide solution). This action provides immediate and long-term relief from dentinal hypersensitivity and effectively arrests carious lesions, including root caries, without the tissue irritation or strong odors associated with traditional ammonia-based silver diamine fluoride (SDF) systems. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for its efficacy in arresting active root caries in older adults.
