Rivaroxaban is a direct oral anticoagulant that specifically inhibits activated factor X (factor Xa), while activated charcoal is an adsorbent agent used to reduce drug absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. Studies have shown that activated charcoal can significantly reduce rivaroxaban exposure even when administered up to 8 hours after rivaroxaban ingestion, with reductions in the area under the concentration-time curve ranging from 29-43% depending on timing of administration.
