Overview

Rivaroxaban + ticagrelor is a combination of two oral antithrombotic agents used together for enhanced prevention of thrombotic events, particularly in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and acute coronary syndrome after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)[1][8]. Rivaroxaban is a direct oral anticoagulant that selectively inhibits coagulation factor Xa, thereby blocking the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin and preventing clot formation[6]. Ticagrelor is an oral antiplatelet agent that acts as a reversible antagonist of the P2Y12 adenosine diphosphate receptor on platelets, inhibiting platelet aggregation and reducing the risk of arterial thrombosis[4]. The combination aims to provide both anticoagulant and antiplatelet effects for comprehensive protection against cardiovascular events. However, this regimen carries an increased risk of bleeding and should be used with caution under specialist supervision due to potential drug–drug interactions[2][7].
