Overview

Rivoglitazone is a thiazolidinedione-class antidiabetic agent developed by Daiichi Sankyo for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It acts as a highly potent agonist of peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), improving insulin sensitivity and reducing hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and hypertriglyceridemia. Clinical studies have shown that it can lower hemoglobin A1c (A1C) levels more effectively than some other drugs in its class. Adverse effects are similar to other PPARγ agonists and include peripheral edema and weight gain. Rivoglitazone has a longer half-life compared to other agents in this class[1][2][3][4].
