Rizedisben is an investigational, small-molecule, myelin-binding fluorophore being developed as an intraoperative nerve imaging agent to enhance surgical safety by improving visualization of nerve structures under blue light (370–425 nm) illumination.[1][3][5] By selectively binding to myelinated nerve sheaths, it produces dose-dependent, sustained fluorescence of critical nerves, such as the obturator nerve and peri-prostatic neurovascular bundles, facilitating nerve-sparing techniques during minimally invasive procedures like robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy.[1][3][5] Developed by Illuminare Biotechnologies, rizedisben has demonstrated a favorable safety profile and clinically effective nerve illumination at 3.0 mg/kg intravenous dosing in a phase 1 trial and has received FDA Fast Track designation to support further development across additional surgical indications.[2][5]
