Overview

RK-02 is a preclinical small molecule drug candidate being developed by Myopharm for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes and Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA). The drug acts as an inhibitor of Dual specificity tyrosine-phosphorylation-regulated kinase 1A (DYRK1A), a target identified for its role in regulating pancreatic beta-cell proliferation. By inhibiting DYRK1A, RK-02 aims to stimulate the regeneration and expansion of insulin-producing beta-cell mass, potentially restoring endogenous insulin production in patients with autoimmune-driven beta-cell loss. As an oral therapeutic, it represents a regenerative approach to diabetes management, distinct from traditional exogenous insulin replacement or immunosuppressive strategies.
