RKKRRQRRR-Ahx-RWQWRWQWR is a synthetic hybrid peptide designed for the treatment of cervical cancer. It is composed of a cell-penetrating peptide (CPP) sequence (RKKRRQRRR) and an anticancer peptide (ACP) sequence (RWQWRWQWR) derived from bovine lactoferricin (LfcinB), joined by a 6-aminohexanoic acid (Ahx) spacer. The molecule functions by targeting the negatively charged components of cancer cell surfaces through electrostatic interactions, followed by membrane disruption or internalization. In vitro studies demonstrate significant and rapid cytotoxic activity against HeLa and Ca Ski cervical cancer cell lines, with improved potency compared to the individual precursor sequences. The peptide was developed by a collaborative research group in Colombia, including the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
