Overview

RLBN1127 is a small molecule, bifunctional inhibitor developed by Acquist Therapeutics for the treatment of gout. It is designed to lower serum uric acid levels by simultaneously inhibiting xanthine oxidase (XO), the enzyme responsible for uric acid production, and URAT1 (SLC22A12), the transporter responsible for uric acid reabsorption in the kidneys. This dual mechanism of action aims to provide superior efficacy compared to conventional monofunctional treatments like allopurinol (XO inhibitor) or lesinurad (URAT1 inhibitor) by addressing both the overproduction and underexcretion of uric acid. RLBN1127 was developed as a lead candidate following clinical proof-of-concept with earlier prototype compounds.
