Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RLLRRLLR-Ahx-RWQWRWQWR is a synthetic hybrid anticancer peptide (ACP) designed for the treatment of cervical cancer. It is composed of a sequence derived from Buforin IIb (RLLRRLLR) and a palindromic sequence derived from bovine lactoferricin (RWQWRWQWR), connected by a 6-aminohexanoic acid (Ahx) spacer. The peptide exhibits rapid, concentration-dependent cytotoxic activity against cervical cancer cell lines such as HeLa and Ca Ski. Its mechanism of action involves initial electrostatic interaction with negatively charged cell surface components, followed by membrane disruption or internalization that leads to cell death, characterized by morphological changes consistent with apoptosis. It was developed through a collaboration between the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
