RLS-1496 is a first-in-class small molecule drug developed by Rubedo Life Sciences as a modulator of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), designed to selectively target and eliminate senescent cells in the skin and surrounding tissues. The drug was discovered using Rubedo’s AI-driven Alembic platform, which leverages single-cell RNA sequencing and machine learning to identify pathological cell populations driving chronic dermatological conditions. By targeting skin senescent cells, RLS-1496 aims to provide disease-modifying therapy for chronic inflammatory skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, potentially offering sustained relief by addressing the underlying cause of persistent inflammation rather than just treating symptoms. Preclinical studies have shown that RLS-1496 significantly reduces markers of cellular senescence in affected skin tissue.
