RM-718

RM-718 is an investigational, once-weekly, highly selective melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) agonist developed by Rhythm Pharmaceuticals. It is designed to be MC1R-sparing, aiming to avoid the hyperpigmentation side effects seen with less selective MC4R agonists such as setmelanotide. Preclinical studies have shown that RM-718 can reduce body weight and hunger (hyperphagia), making it a promising candidate for treating severe obesity and hypothalamic obesity (HO). The drug is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial for safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and optimal dosing in both healthy subjects with obesity and patients with HO.
