RM-LNC (Rhein-Modified Lipid Nanocapsules) is an experimental oral drug delivery nanosystem designed to enhance the treatment of type 2 diabetes and associated metabolic disorders such as hepatic steatosis. The system consists of lipid nanocapsules modified with rhein, a natural anthraquinone derivative. Rhein serves a dual functional role: it acts as a ligand to improve the intestinal absorption and bioavailability of encapsulated therapeutic peptides (such as GLP-1 or its analogs) and independently stimulates the endogenous secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) from enteroendocrine L-cells. By combining the protective encapsulation of peptides with the secretagogue effect of rhein, RM-LNC aims to overcome the biological barriers to oral peptide delivery while providing synergistic glucose-lowering effects.
