RMD2202 is a human monoclonal antibody under development for the prevention of rabies following exposure. It is designed to provide passive immunization as an alternative to traditional blood-derived rabies immunoglobulin (RIG), which has limitations in supply and potential safety risks. RMD2202 targets the rabies virus glycoprotein, specifically binding to critical epitopes involved in viral neutralization. It is one of two antibodies (the other being RM05) that are combined in a 1:1 mass ratio to form CRM25, a monoclonal antibody cocktail shown to cross-neutralize various rabies virus strains and non-rabies lyssaviruses by targeting distinct, non-overlapping epitopes on the viral glycoprotein[1]. The mechanism includes both direct neutralization of the virus and Fc-mediated antiviral effects.
