RN-0001 is a small molecule inhibitor developed by Ruinuo Medical Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. for the treatment of acute pancreatitis (AP) and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). The drug specifically targets secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2), an enzyme that plays a pivotal role in the early stages of the inflammatory cascade by releasing arachidonic acid from cell membranes. Arachidonic acid serves as a precursor for various pro-inflammatory lipid mediators, including prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which contribute to the systemic inflammation and subsequent multi-organ failure often seen in severe acute pancreatitis. By inhibiting sPLA2, RN-0001 aims to attenuate the excessive inflammatory response and improve clinical outcomes in patients with acute inflammatory conditions. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials as an intravenous injection.
