RNA-LPA (multi-lamellar RNA lipid-particle aggregates) is a novel mRNA vaccine designed to overcome the limitations of current cancer vaccines by delivering an increased mRNA payload to the tumor site. Developed by scientists at the University of Florida Health, this vaccine utilizes an 'onion-like' clustered structure of lipid nanoparticles to profoundly alert the immune system. It functions by reprogramming the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) from an 'immune cold' state to an 'active immune hot' state, thereby eliciting a vigorous adaptive immune response against the tumor. A key feature of RNA-LPA is its potential for personalization, where mRNA can be extracted from a patient's own tumor, amplified, and then encapsulated into biocompatible lipid nanoparticles for enhanced immune activation.
