Overview

RNAT-89 is an investigational mRNA-based therapeutic developed by RNA Therapeutics. It is a lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation encoding the gene for darbepoetin, designed to enable in vivo expression of this therapeutic protein. Darbepoetin is a long-acting erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) used to treat anemia. Unlike traditional biologic drugs that are manufactured and administered as proteins, RNAT-89 delivers mRNA instructions so that the patient's own cells produce darbepoetin internally. The primary indications under development are anemia due to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and anemia associated with non-myeloid malignancies where it results from myelosuppressive chemotherapy[1][2][3][4]. This approach aims to provide a more affordable and scalable alternative to current ESA therapies.
