**rNDV-18HL** is a genetically engineered recombinant Newcastle disease virus (NDV) based on the Italien strain, carrying a mouse-human chimeric antibody gene (cHAb18) targeting CD147, a tumor-associated antigen. It is designed as an **oncolytic virus therapy** for cancer—specifically hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)—and combines direct tumor cell lysis (oncolytic virotherapy) with antibody therapy. After infecting tumor cells, rNDV-18HL replicates selectively in tumor tissue, produces and locally releases the cHAb18 antibody upon cytolysis, thereby inhibiting tumor cell migration and invasion in addition to inducing necrosis of tumor tissue and reducing metastasis. The cHAb18 antibody works by binding CD147, which is implicated in cancer cell motility and metastatic behavior, further suppressing tumor progression. The recombinant virus has shown to prolong survival and reduce metastasis in mouse models of HCC.
