Ro 15-1788 + scopolamine is an experimental combination of two pharmacologically active agents: Ro 15-1788 (also known as flumazenil), a selective benzodiazepine receptor antagonist, and scopolamine, a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. Flumazenil acts by competitively inhibiting the action of benzodiazepines at the central benzodiazepine binding site on the GABA-A receptor complex, thereby reversing or preventing the effects of benzodiazepines[1][5]. Scopolamine blocks muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the central and peripheral nervous system, leading to anticholinergic effects such as memory impairment and sedation. This combination has been used in research to model cognitive impairment (as seen in dementia) and to study pharmacological interactions between cholinergic and GABAergic systems[2]. There is no evidence that this combination is approved for clinical use.
