Overview

**RO 41-1049** is a reversible and selective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A), developed by Roche. It has been widely used as a research compound to probe MAO-A enzymatic function and binding characteristics in both in vitro and in vivo contexts. RO 41-1049 is distinguished from other related MAO inhibitors by its selectivity for MAO-A over MAO-B and reversible inhibition profile, as well as by its ability to bind with high-affinity to the active site of MAO-A in human tissues. Chemically, it is also known as N-(2-aminoethyl)-5-(3-fluorophenyl)thiazole-4-carboxamide hydrochloride. Animal studies demonstrate that RO 41-1049 can significantly inhibit dopamine metabolite formation and increase dopamine levels, particularly in the brain. Its primary application is as a pharmacological tool in neuroscience and neurochemistry research, especially related to neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders[1][2][3][6].
