RO5028442 (also known as RG7713) is a potent and highly selective small molecule antagonist of the arginine vasopressin receptor 1A (V1a). It was developed for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder and other pervasive developmental disorders. The drug is brain penetrant and does not antagonize vasopressin V2 or oxytocin receptors. Clinical studies in adults with high-functioning autism showed that blockade of the V1a receptor may improve some aspects of social communication; however, results were mixed and only mild to moderate adverse events were reported. As of late 2018 there has been no further development reported beyond phase I clinical trials[4][5][7].
