RO6924963 is a radiolabeled small molecule positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent developed by Roche for the in vivo visualization of tau protein aggregates in the brain. Labeled with carbon-11 ([11C]), it is designed to bind selectively and with high affinity to neurofibrillary tangles composed of aggregated tau protein—a hallmark pathology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Preclinical studies demonstrated that [11C]RO6924963 exhibits good brain entry, rapid washout, favorable metabolism patterns, and high specificity for tau aggregates over amyloid-β plaques or other central nervous system targets. The compound was evaluated alongside other candidate tracers as part of a program to develop sensitive and selective PET tracers for detecting longitudinal changes in tau load during AD progression or therapeutic intervention trials[2][6][8].
