RO7616605 is an investigational inhaled small interfering RNA (siRNA) developed by Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic bronchitis. The drug is designed to target and silence the expression of thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), an epithelial-derived cytokine that acts as a key upstream regulator of the inflammatory cascade in the airways. By utilizing RNA interference (RNAi) to degrade TSLP mRNA, RO7616605 aims to reduce the production of TSLP protein directly in the lung tissue, thereby dampening both type 2 and non-type 2 inflammation. This localized delivery via inhalation is intended to maximize therapeutic efficacy in the lungs while minimizing potential systemic side effects. RO7616605 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacodynamic activity in healthy volunteers and patients with COPD.
