Overview

RO7663498 (also known as RG6538) is a next-generation bispecific monoclonal antibody developed by Hoffmann-La Roche for the treatment of retinal vascular diseases, specifically diabetic retinopathy. It is designed to simultaneously target and inhibit two key pathways involved in pathological ocular angiogenesis and vascular leakage: vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2). By neutralizing both VEGF-A and Ang-2, RO7663498 aims to provide superior vascular stabilization and more durable efficacy compared to standard anti-VEGF monotherapies. The drug is administered via intravitreal injection and is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to determine its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile in patients with diabetic retinopathy.
