Overview

Rocacetrapib is a cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitor developed as an investigational small molecule drug for the treatment of dyslipidemia and prevention of cardiovascular disease. CETP inhibitors work by blocking the activity of CETP, a plasma protein that facilitates the transfer of cholesterol esters from high-density lipoprotein (HDL) to low-density and very-low-density lipoproteins (LDL, VLDL). By inhibiting this process, CETP inhibitors like rocacetrapib are designed to increase HDL cholesterol ("good" cholesterol) and decrease LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol), with the goal of reducing cardiovascular risk. Rocacetrapib belongs to the same class as other CETP inhibitors such as torcetrapib, anacetrapib, evacetrapib, dalcetrapib, and obicetrapib. However, there is no evidence in current literature or clinical trial registries that rocacetrapib advanced beyond early-stage development or entered clinical trials.
