Overview

Roflumilast is a selective, long-acting inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4). It is primarily used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to reduce the risk of exacerbations. Additionally, topical formulations of roflumilast are approved for plaque psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis, and it is being investigated for atopic dermatitis. Its mechanism of action involves increasing intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels, which leads to anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting various inflammatory cells.
