Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Roghan-i-Bābūna is a classical Unani herbal formulation prepared by extracting the active constituents of chamomile (*Matricaria chamomilla*) into a base oil, typically sesame oil (*Sesamum indicum*). It is widely utilized in Unani medicine for its anti-inflammatory (*Muhallil-i-Waram*), analgesic (*Musakkin-i-Alam*), and resolvent properties. The oil is primarily indicated for musculoskeletal disorders, including osteoarthritis (*Waja'ul Mafāṣil*), gout, and nerve pain. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing pain (measured by Visual Analog Scale scores) and improving functional outcomes in patients with knee osteoarthritis (*Waja' ur Rukbah*) when applied through therapeutic massage (*Dalk*). Its pharmacological action is attributed to bioactive compounds like chamazulene and apigenin, which modulate inflammatory pathways.
