Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rohto Dry Aid is a multi-action, micro-emulsion lubricant eye drop developed by Rohto Pharmaceuticals to provide relief for symptoms of dry eye disease (DED), including evaporative dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). The formulation utilizes "Tearshield Technology" to address deficiencies in all three layers of the tear film: the lipid, aqueous, and mucin layers. Its primary active ingredients are the demulcents povidone and propylene glycol, which are supplemented by a non-polar and polar lipid blend containing sesame oil and polyoxyethylene castor oil to stabilize the tear film and reduce evaporation. Additionally, the inclusion of menthol provides a cooling sensation and may stimulate basal tear secretion. Clinical data indicates that Rohto Dry Aid significantly improves tear film break-up time (TFBUT) and ocular surface disease index (OSDI) scores, providing symptomatic relief for up to 12 hours.
