romazarit

Romazarit is an experimental small-molecule propionic acid derivative originally developed by Roche as a potential disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) for rheumatoid arthritis. Preclinical and clinical pharmacology studies demonstrated anti-inflammatory and disease-modifying activity in animal models and in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, with oral dosing achieving exposures associated with efficacy in models of chronic arthritis. Subsequent work identified romazarit as a peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor alpha (PPARα) agonist, linking its effects to modulation of lipid metabolism and inflammatory pathways, and it has been repurposed for investigation in metabolic diseases such as dyslipidemia, obesity, insulin resistance, and related cardiometabolic conditions.
