Overview

Rong-dan (also known as Rong-dan Granules) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). The formula is based on TCM principles of tonifying Qi and activating blood circulation to unblock collaterals. It aims to improve nerve conduction velocity and alleviate symptoms such as numbness and pain by targeting multiple pathological pathways, including the reduction of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), inhibition of the TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway, and mitigation of oxidative stress. Clinical studies conducted at the developing institution have demonstrated its efficacy in improving sensory and motor nerve functions in diabetic patients.
