Overview
Rongliflozin is a small molecule sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor developed by Guangdong Dongyangguang Pharmaceutical (HEC Pharm) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. By selectively inhibiting SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, rongliflozin reduces the reabsorption of filtered glucose and lowers the renal threshold for glucose, thereby increasing urinary glucose excretion and reducing plasma glucose levels. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in China, demonstrating efficacy in improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is often formulated as a salt or cocrystal with L-pyroglutamic acid to enhance its pharmacokinetic properties.
