Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Room temperature stored platelets (RTPs) in 100% plasma are a biological blood component therapy used for the management of hemorrhage. In the Phase 1/2 CHASE (Cold Stored Platelets in Cardiac Surgery) trial led by Dr. Moritz Stolla, these platelets serve as the standard-of-care control arm. They consist of apheresis-derived human platelets suspended in 100% plasma and stored at room temperature (20-24°C) with continuous agitation for a period of up to 7 days. The intervention aims to restore hemostatic function in patients undergoing cardiac surgery who experience significant bleeding following cardiopulmonary bypass. While RTPs are the current clinical standard, the CHASE trial evaluates whether cold-stored platelets might offer superior hemostatic efficacy and a longer shelf life.
