Overview

Ropesalazine (INN: crisdesalazine) is a multi-target small molecule investigational drug developed by GNT Pharma for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. It is designed to address two primary pathological drivers: neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. Ropesalazine acts as a selective inhibitor of microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1), which reduces the production of the pro-inflammatory mediator PGE2, and functions as a potent scavenger of free radicals. By mitigating these processes, the drug aims to prevent nerve cell death and the formation of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. It is currently marketed in South Korea as GedaCure for canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS) and is in Phase II clinical development for human Alzheimer's disease.
