Overview
This combination drug is a local anesthetic cocktail used for regional anesthesia, specifically for ultrasound-guided fascia-iliaca blocks in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy. It consists of ropivacaine, a long-acting amide-type local anesthetic that inhibits sodium ion influx in nerve fibers; clonidine, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that acts as an analgesic adjuvant to prolong the duration of the block; and epinephrine, a vasoconstrictor that reduces systemic absorption and extends the local effect. The Hawkins Foundation is evaluating this combination in a Phase 4 clinical trial to compare its efficacy against standard local anesthetic injections for managing post-operative pain.
