Overview

Ropivacaine + ketorolac is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily for postoperative pain management, often administered locally (such as intra-articular or periarticular injection). Ropivacaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that works by blocking sodium channels in nerve cells, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses and providing regional anesthesia. Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis to provide analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. The combination enhances pain relief compared to either agent alone by targeting both nociceptive transmission (ropivacaine) and inflammatory pathways (ketorolac), resulting in improved analgesia with reduced opioid requirements after surgery[3][4][5]. This combination has been studied for use in orthopedic procedures such as arthroscopic knee surgery, shoulder surgery, gynecologic surgery, and spinal fusion[1][3][5][8].
