Overview

Ropren is a polyprenol-containing pharmaceutical derived from the needles of the European spruce (*Picea abies*), developed by the Tomsk National Research Medical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The active ingredient consists of polyprenols, which are natural isoprenoid lipids that serve as precursors to dolichols. These compounds are essential components of the dolichol phosphate pathway, which is involved in the N-glycosylation of proteins. Ropren is primarily being investigated as an adjunct to standard therapy (including statins) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Clinical studies, including the Phase 3 POLYNCOR trial, evaluate its potential hypolipidemic and hepatoprotective effects, as well as its ability to improve symptoms of anxiety, depression, and cognitive dysfunction often associated with cardiovascular events. It is typically administered as an oral solution.
