Overview

Roquinimex is a quinoline-3-carboxamide derivative with immunomodulatory and potential antineoplastic activity. It acts as an immunostimulant, increasing the activity of natural killer (NK) cells and enhancing macrophage cytotoxicity. Roquinimex inhibits endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and basement membrane invasion, thereby reducing angiogenesis. It also decreases the secretion of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) by tumor-associated macrophages. The drug has been investigated for use in various cancers, autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, and as adjuvant therapy after bone marrow transplantation in acute leukemia. Clinical development was discontinued due to unexpected side effects observed during trials[1][2][3][4][5][7][8].
