Rosa canina is a species of wild rose known as dog rose, with its fruit commonly called rose hip. Native to Europe, North Africa, and temperate Asia, the fruit is used primarily as a dietary supplement and herbal remedy. Clinical evidence supports the use of rosa canina (rose hip) for osteoarthritis, with studies showing anti-inflammatory effects through reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and inhibition of enzymes such as COX-1/2, 5-LOX, and iNOS. Antioxidant activity is attributed to compounds including vitamin C, polyphenols, terpenoids, galactolipids, carotenoids, and fruit acids, among others. Additional traditional uses include supplementation for vitamin C deficiency and support of the immune system. It is available in various forms, such as powder, capsule, and tea, and is generally well-tolerated, though mild gastrointestinal side effects and rare allergic reactions have been reported[2][3][4][5][6][8].
