PH-10 is a topical small molecule formulation of rose bengal sodium, a halogenated xanthene dye, developed by Provectus Biopharmaceuticals. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The drug's mechanism involves selective accumulation in diseased tissue and the subsequent modulation of inflammatory pathways. Unlike its intralesional counterpart PV-10, which is used in oncology, PH-10 is optimized for topical application to skin lesions. Its therapeutic effect is characterized by the induction of autophagy and the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically targeting the IL-17/IL-23 axis, which is central to the pathogenesis of psoriasis. PH-10 is designed to exert its effects through direct biochemical interaction with inflammatory cells without the requirement for external light activation, distinguishing it from traditional photodynamic therapies.
