Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rosehip extract is a dietary supplement derived mainly from the fruits of wild rose plants, especially *Rosa canina* and *Rosa damascena*. It contains high levels of polyphenols, anthocyanins, galactolipids (notably GOPO), flavonoids (such as quercetin, catechin), vitamin C, and other antioxidant compounds[7][9]. The primary mechanisms of action are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, with evidence supporting inhibition of inflammatory mediators, suppression of cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 activity, and modulation of arachidonic acid metabolism[9]. Rosehip extract shows clinical benefits in reducing pain and improving function in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, with further pharmacological activities reported for cardiovascular protection, lipid-lowering, anti-aging, and hypoglycemic effects in preclinical studies[7][8][9]. Most clinical research has been done on standardized, patented extracts (e.g., HybenVital, Rose-Hip Vital). Developers and manufacturers for standardized extracts include Hyben Vital[9].
