Overview

Rotarix is a live attenuated human rotavirus vaccine derived from the RIX4414 strain, which is a G1P[8] human rotavirus. Developed by GSK, it is indicated for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE) in infants and young children. The vaccine is administered orally and functions by inducing active immunity, specifically eliciting anti-rotavirus IgA antibodies that provide protection against multiple rotavirus serotypes. The liquid formulation is a ready-to-use presentation that does not require reconstitution, facilitating easier administration in clinical settings. It has been evaluated in various clinical trials, including Phase I studies in China, to support its safety and reactogenicity profile in pediatric populations.
